“From Story to Song” is a practical guide to the mythical and mystical craft of traditional American and popular music songwriting. The workshop is free.
Singer, harpist and author Calvin Arsenia has built a reputation for genre-bending live work that blends gospel roots, classical training, jazz and electronic influences. He was voted Kansas City’s Best Musician from 2018 to 2023 by The Pitch and has been featured on Billboard.com, NPR.org, NEWNOWNEXT, Pride.com and GRAMMY.com.
Arsenia’s interest in recording started as a teenager, layering harmonies into the built-in microphone on his older brother’s PC. As the MP3 era reshaped the music industry, he came to believe the value of music is not primarily in the recording but in the live, ceremonial experience. Since 2016, he has produced and released a wide body of recorded work, with a discography compiled by radio DJ and music historian Mark Manning.
A workbook is included. Attendees may also choose an optional virtual follow-up. The follow-up date is to be announced.
