“Cosmos and Soul” is a January exhibition featuring the artwork of Alex Laughlin at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art.
Laughlin is a graduate of Valley Heights High School and a former Artistic Leadership Liaison for the Marshall County Arts Cooperative. He has said creating art has been part of his life for as long as he can remember and that a spiritual perspective has shaped his work.
During college, Laughlin said a disconnect between who he was and who he felt he needed to be contributed to a period of depression. He said he created a painting he now calls a Soul Portrait, a piece that represented qualities he wanted to embody and the person he was ready to become. Laughlin said the artwork became a focal point for meditation and daily reflection and helped him reconnect with his authentic self.
“That experience showed me how profoundly art can reprogram the stories we carry,” Laughlin said. “It helped me release old identities, dissolve limiting beliefs and step into alignment with my purpose.”
The exhibition is presented by the Marshall County Arts Cooperative at the Lee Dam Center for Fine Art in Marysville.
