This concert is for those who love classical music.
The first act features pieces by Bach. The chaconne was originally a slow Spanish dance in triple time. This particular piece is divided into three sections. Many composers consider Bach’s famous “Chaconne in D” minor to be the single greatest piece ever written for solo instrument.
This famous transcription of “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” is performed in C Major, which enables the guitarist to include the entire melodic bass line as well as bring out the full sonority of the guitar.
The second act features pieces by Giuliani, one of the most important guitarists during the early 19th century. The legendary composer and vilionest, Paganini, will be featured, too – he was a fine guitarist.
Ponce, a pioneer of Mexican music, combined local folklore with European musical styles. Ponce dedicated almost all of his music to the great Spanish guitarist Andres Segovia.
